I recently quit drinking
And had my last cigarette
I felt so confident,
At four, when I went to bed
But everything turned upside down
Falling off my bedroom wall
Breaking glass without a sound
Out of place, too big, too small
I’m a slow learner
I talk too much
Smile in the wrong direction
The morning after
I’ve had enough
I take one step forward
Three to the side
Stay invisible
For a little while
Looking for shelter
A place to hide
From the morning after
Last night
Images are haunting me
Spinning around in my head
Voices reminding me
Of all the foolish things I said
I’ve got to face reality
One last time again
I can hear somebody telling me
To stop before I reach the end
I’m a slow learner
I talk too much
Smile in the wrong direction
The morning after
I’ve had enough
I take one step forward
Three to the side
Stay invisible
For a little while
Looking for shelter
A place to hide
From the morning after
Last night
